All around Stevns there are cosy villages and towns to visit.

Store Heddinge

The old capital of Stevns was founded in the 13th century, allthough Christopher of Bavaria didn’t confirm the municipal papers untill 1441.
Today it is still a very charming town, characterised by its age and architecture. When you walk along Algade and Vestergade, you will find several well preserved and interesting houses.
The “Gamle Apotek” in Algade retains much of its original interior from its days as the Towns pharmacy.

St. Catharina church is unique in Denmark. It was built in the 13th century with an octagonal nave. To the sides of the nave are the cloisters with secret rooms used for defence purposes, most likely this was a part of a monastery.

For its size, Store Heddinge offers exceptional shopping opportunities. The shops will give you a warm welcome, and provide a good old fashioned service.
After walking through the town, visiting the shops, you can relax and get a break from it all at Café Algade.

Rødvig

To many the harbour of Rødvig is considered to be the very essence of Stevns. This is because of the many yachtsmen, who visit the yachting marina and adjoining fishing harbour each year.

Just next to the yachting marina, you will find the very trademark of Rødvig – the flint oven. The oven was used from 1870-1910 to produce flint powder for faience and glaze for porcelain, from flintstones found on the beaches nearby.
The harbour itself has a 100 year old boat building yard, and an ice house producing the ice for fish landed, as well as other interesting things.
Rødvig Marine Engine museum is definately worth a visit. After visiting the museum, you can go for a walk around the harbour, along the beach or walk out to Boesdal limestone quarry.
The tour will give you a clear impression of the different layers formed in the cliffs.
